The Originals - Spoiler From TV Line - 26th March 2014

Diehard ‘Klaroline’ shipper here. Please tell me Klaus and Genevieve are just messing around and that their relationship on The Originals won’t last.

Fear not. Joseph Morgan recently set the record straight on Klaus’ true feelings, or lack thereof, for the witch who revealed his sister’s betrayal. “They’re two extremely damaged people who share a sense of self-loathing and they take it out on each other — sometimes physically, sometimes aggressively,” he explained. “Ultimately, a relationship like that can be fun, but it’s doomed, I would say, from the start.”

The Vampire Diaries - Spoiler From TV Line - 13th December 2013

Anything on Klaus’ upcoming trip to The Vampire Diaries? Please tell me he’ll have a scene with Caroline!

Perhaps the juicier question is: Who’s going with him? Teasing the why of the cross-back-over, Originals EP Michael Narducci says, “There are things happening on Vampire Diaries which are pretty huge. Word travels to New Orleans and Klaus – and perhaps even one other of our characters – will be curious about the events that are taking place in Mystic Falls.”

The Vampire Diaries - Spoiler From TV Line - 10th December 2013

Any intel on Klaus’ upcoming return visit to The Vampire Diaries?

It’ll happen in early-ish 2014 and he won’t be making the trip solo.

Bonus Scoop: The Katherine-Elena dynamic is about to get a lot more complicated (if that’s even possible).

The Vampire Diaries - First Crossover With The Originals

Klaus Mikaelson is returning to Mystic Falls, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

The Originals' Klaus (Joseph Morgan) will cross over onto The Vampire Diaries for the first time since he exited the series in the Season 4 finale. As part of his goodbye — and in one of our favorite scenes of all time! — Klaus told Caroline (Candice Accola) that her boyfriend Tyler (Michael Trevino) was free to return to Mystic Falls. He then added, "He's your first love. I intend to be your last."

Well now that Tyler and Caroline have pretty much called it quits, has Klaus returned for another go at getting Caroline to give in to his love? Reps for CW and Warner Bros. TV had no comment.

Before the season began, Morgan said he was thrilled with the momentary ending between the two characters, but wasn't sure it was permanent.  "There was a responsibility for the fans who were rooting for Klaus and Caroline to at least give them some sort of resolve," Morgan told us. "That's not saying it's the end of that because there's the potential of crossovers."

When we last talked to Accola, she wasn't overly confident about the two ever getting together. "Klaus is a bit of a bad word for Caroline," she said. "It's a little out of sight out of mind — but he's still there."

The Originals - Spoiler From TV Guide - 29th October 2013

When will ever see a Klaroline crossover on The Originals?

Not yet! Although Klaus made his feelings for Caroline well known, he's a little busy developing some feelings for another blonde — Cami (Leah Pipes). Danielle Pineda, who plays Sophie, recently shared why she thinks viewers should keep their eye on Cami and Klaus. "The story line that I really love is the one between Cami and Klaus because clearly there's an attraction there, and he's strangely so drawn to her. But that relationship is a lot deeper than people realize and where that story is heading is really cool."

The Originals - Spoiler From TV Guide - 17th September 2013

Do you have any scoop on The Originals?

Klaus' daddy issues will resurface when Sebastian Roche returns in a flashback as Original father Mikael Mikaelson. "We'll certainly get a better idea of why Klaus has turned out the way he has," Joseph Morgan tells us. "One scene in particular, filmed in the woods in the dead of night, will hopefully help people to empathize a little more with this bloodthirsty, murdering sociopath I play."

The Originals - What We Know So Far...

"The Vampire Diaries" is a fan-favorite at San Diego Comic-Con, and now its spinoff "The Originals" made its big premiere with its first-ever panel. Some new video was shown, but the bulk of the panel focused on introducing these familiar and new characters to the audience in attendance beyond what they saw in "The Originals'" backdoor pilot.
In addition to a sizzle reel, an alternate ending featuring a witch locked up in an attic by Marcel was screened that showed a different taste of the direction "The Originals" is taking. Plec promises this character is one of the big mysteries in Season 1 that will be dealt with right off the bat. The pilot was already shown on preview night, but it turns out that the show's actual first episode will be a retelling of what fans saw back in April.
"Elijah goes to New Orleans to figure out what his brother is up to," showrunner Julie Plecteases. "We'll see similar scenes and moments that we didn't get to see in the pilot."
Rebekah won't appear in New Orleans until episode 2 because she has her own story to finish. "She's still hoochin' it up with Matt Donovan," Plec says. Rebekah will also appear in the premiere episode of "The Vampire Diaries," which will see her storyline with Matt come to a close. "Something will bring her to new Orleans in the second episode with an ... agenda," Plec says.
Rebekah isn't the only one leaving someone behind in Mystic Falls. Elijah also had to say farewell to Katherine. "I 100 percent thinks he still has feelings for Katherine, but the level of his devotion to his family comes first," Daniel Gillies says of Elijah's departure.
Then there are Klaroline fans, who aren't super happy about Klaus having a new baby mama. Expect that the Klaus and Caroline relationship will still be dealt with. "It's not like she doesn't exist," Plec says. "If anything she's sort of like the Buffy to his Angel. She made an impact on him." Joseph Morgan adds of the seeming end of that relationship, "It's all I hear about."
Beyond the original vampires in "The Originals," Marcel will also be put front and center.Charles Michael Davis' new character will be explored through flashbacks all through Season 1, with the first few episodes looking into how Marcel and Klaus first met and then watch Marcel "grow from a boy to a man."
Phoebe Tonkin throws a wrench in "The Originals" storyline as her werewolf character Hayley is pregnant with Klaus' child. Plec says that romance might not necessarily follow the one night stand-turned-parenthood, but at least both characters have a bond. For Morgan, something a bit different brought Klaus to Hayley.
"He's had two and a half seasons of celibacy, so he has some pent up energy," Morgan jokes. "I got away with two seasons of having a shirt on 'The Vampire Diaries.' I think that's got to be a record."
When a fan asked whether Klaus and Hayley's baby will be a hybrid or some new creature, Plec hedged and says, "I obviously can't give an answer to that." Still, she gave an answer of swords, saying, "I think that everybody will have their own opinion about what this baby and what it means." She continues, "There will be a million supernatural debates. ... It will be part of the fun of waiting for it to be born."
All Holt wants, though, is for it to be a "husky puppy." We'll be the first to second that.

The Originals Spoiler From TV Guide - 16th July 2013

Anything on The Originals?

We'll soon find out that Katherine wasn't the only woman who came between Klaus and Elijah. Back in the 1800s, Klaus was entangled with a stunning Creole woman named Celeste, who also had a fondness for Elijah, who wasn't as busy as his brother keeping the residents of New Orleans in check. I'm sure that'll end well!

Will Klaus and Caroline finally get their moment, or is Hayley standing in the way?

When "The Vampire Diaries" launched its spin-off series, "The Originals," with a backdoor pilot, fans were floored to learn that the new show hinged upon Klaus's discovery that he and Hayley, his werewolf one-night-stand, were expecting a child. Though we'd previously thought vampires couldn't conceive, as the Original hybrid, Klaus is an exception to a lot of rules -- so it shouldn't surprise us that he stumbled upon "nature's loophole" when he slept with Hayley.

The reaction to the baby news was certainly mixed. The backdoor pilot fared well enough to merit a green light for the series from The CW, but many "Vampire Diaries" fans found the parenthood story troubling. In particular, fans rooting for Klaus and Caroline to get together were pretty vocal about their dissatisfaction, worried that Klaus having a child with another woman was the death knell for "Klaroline."

But in actuality, the baby isn't as relevant to the Klaus/Caroline romance as one might initially assume. In fact, the pregnancy is such a non-factor, it may not even be addressed with Caroline, as she's far more concerned with Klaus's behavior toward the people she cares about than she is with his sexual dalliances and ties to New Orleans.

Julie Plec, executive producer of both "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals," understands the concerns of the "Klaroline" fandom, but also makes the point that there's a much larger story to tell about Klaus outside of his romance.

"To be fair, there are plenty of people who hate the idea that she would ever look sideways at the guy that murdered her boyfriend's mother and sent him running from town like a chicken -- there's definitely plenty of those people rooting against that twosome," Plec tells us. "It's our second-most controversial love triangle, I suppose. But on behalf of those who love Klaus and Caroline together, they look at this pregnancy storyline and think that means 'Oh, Klaus is going to go away and be a good dad and fall for the baby-mama and forget all about Caroline.' No. Hell no."

For Klaus, the hybrid baby -- whatever sort of supernatural creature it may turn out to be -- is just a means to getting the French Quarter back under his thumb, and a means of leverage with Elijah. It's not about Hayley, for him, and there's not some grand "Klayley" endgame romance brewing in Louisiana. In fact, while Klaus and Hayley both have a degree of investment in the pregnancy, they don't particularly care about each other at all.

"The bottom line is that this baby, as we move forward in 'The Originals,' is just a power pawn for him," Plec says. "Klaus's journey will be to live up to Elijah's hope, which is that this is going to be the thing that can bring their family back together. This is absolutely not Papa Klaus nursing and changing diapers and suddenly being a good guy, nor will it ever be."

In some ways, the baby drawing Klaus to New Orleans is one step toward building him into a man who might be suitable for Caroline to legitimately consider in the future. "This is part of a big picture of taking someone who has been terribly villainous and filled with rage, and hurt as a result of being colossally disappointed by his family, repeatedly -- this is another layer onto the evolution of trying to bring him some sort of inner peace," she says.

In the meantime, look for Klaus and Caroline to share at least one significant moment in the finale, which airs this Thursday, May 16 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. "We haven't seen the last of Klaus's affection for Caroline, and we certainly haven't seen the last of Caroline's confusion about Klaus," Plec assures us. "That'll take us past the finale and into both series, in small and subtle ways, certainly, and then possibly with crossover opportunity moving forward."

Interview With Joseph Morgan From Zap2It

"The Originals" is just two days away! There's been so much anticipation for this show. Are you nervous, at all, for the fans to finally see the pilot?

I'm really excited for people to see it. I'm interested, because I've seen the pilot which was presented to the network and the studio, but that's a different version than what's going to air. The episode that's going to air has slightly more "Vampire Diaries" in it, as opposed to just "The Originals." They've got extra scenes. I know the network and the studio really like it, but it's going to depend on people's reactions. I really hope that people respond to the new characters that we introduce and to the storyline. Right now I'm just ready for it to be out there. I'm tired of the world not knowing what's happening, what the storylines are. I think it's time for people to see. There's been so much support and anticipation, I'm looking forward to the fans being rewarded for that.

the-originals-klaus-elijah.jpgKlaus's relationship with Elijah and Rebekah is as bad as it's ever been. At this point, it's hard to imagine them deciding to move to New Orleans as one big happy family. Will their relationship improve over the course of this episode?

Things are definitely getting more complicated, but I don't know if that's an improvement or not. At the beginning of the episode, it feels like there's a line. Klaus is on one end of it, Rebekah's on the other, and Elijah is sort of in the middle, the great mediator -- but also still kind of siding with Rebekah. He's trying to bring things together in the family, but I think the most interesting thing about "The Originals" is that their dynamics are complicated. There's certainly some hate for one another, there are things you think they'll never forgive each other for, but there's love as well. As an actor, I make a conscious decision that there's love. When he says these terrible things to Rebekah -- "You're not my family, you're not my sister, you're nothing to me" -- I think that I have to make him go to a place where he shuts off his emotion. He puts up a wall around how he feels for her, as opposed to not ever feeling for her. Those are the things which make it really interesting. I don't know if the relationship is going to improve or not, but I know it's going to have more layers.

Tell us about some of the new characters we'll meet. Camille [Leah Pipes], who has been set up as a love interest for Klaus, is the human figure in the show. From what I've heard, she's not an Elena Gilbert-esque ingenue.

"The Originals" has been pitched as a darker, more adult show, and Camille personifies that. She's the only human regular character that's in the show, but she comes at it very damaged. The characters in "Vampire Diaries," at the beginning, had experienced tragedy, but they came at it from a very innocent place. She's coming in much more jaded, with an understanding of darkness. I have one proper scene with her -- a few run-ins with her, but one proper scene -- and I think that's some of the best work I've done. Even though I don't say much in the scene, it was a challenge for me. I really like working with Leah. She makes interesting choices with Julie. She's a beautiful girl, but to me, she doesn't look like the majority of the fans out there who watch the show, for example. They might have a slightly harder time relating to her, which is what makes her so intriguing. She's a fantastic character.

the-originals-marcel-klaus-charles-michael-davis.jpgWe'll be meeting Marcel [Charles Michael Davis], who has been holding down the fort in New Orleans. From the trailer, it seems that Klaus is poised to overthrow him.

There's a history there, there's a friendship there, but absolutely Klaus is envious of what Marcel has managed to achieve in his absence. Klaus is by far the more powerful being -- he's an Original vampire, and he's a hybrid, all these things. Marcel is just a vampire, sired by Klaus. But what Marcel has that Klaus doesn't is this army. He runs the town, he runs the vampires, he has the witches in the palm of his hand. They can't do magic without his say-so. What he lacks in personal power, he makes up for in influence. Should things come to a head between the two of them, that's where the challenge will be. Klaus is a one-man army, but Marcel actually has an army.

It sounds as if Marcel has managed to create the family that Klaus wanted, but couldn't create with the hybrids.

That's very astute of you, yeah, because that's absolutely where the envy and the jealousy comes from. Also, people just like Marcel. The characters respond to him; he's charismatic. Klaus doesn't have that, and he can't understand it. He mistrusts people, people betray him, and he betrays them. He doesn't have the leadership qualities Marcel has. He's envious of the charisma this guy has.

Will there be much talk of Caroline in this episode? If Klaus is gearing up to relocate to New Orleans, I imagine she'd be the biggest motivation to stay in Mystic Falls.

It's made reference to in the episode. Klaus makes reference to it and it's acknowledged in the writing toward the end. It's not like he's in this new place and he's like "Well, forget her!" I think the ideal thing for Klaus would be for her to come to New Orleans, and he's still enamored with her. They're not going to introduce a new love interest and immediately go, "Hey, he's with this girl now!" They respect the fans enough to keep acknowledging Caroline and potentially work in some crossovers.

Could there be a last minute twist, with Candice Accola joining "The Originals"?

I think "Vampire Diaries" would suffer greatly losing Caroline Forbes. I really feel that wouldn't be good for that show, for her to come over to "The Originals," and we've got to keep the balance now that the world's got bigger. There's two shows to maintain, potentially, so they might be in a bit of a long-distance relationship, if anything, for a while.

phoebe-tonkin-the-originals.jpgWhat about Hayley [Phoebe Tonkin]? Is she a viable love interest for Klaus, or was their hookup a one-time thing?

I think that's kind of a one-time thing. I think there's going to be some resolve, some of the aftermath of their liason in the episode. We'll see how they feel about it and how it's affected them both. He's not looking to rekindle that, and I think neither is she. I really loved that that happened between them, because it just goes to show the flawed nature of Klaus' character. I think it was a very bold choice of Julie and the writers, because they absolutely knew the repercussions that it would have, the backlash from all the fans. The Klaus and Caroline fans hate that she'd done that, but he's always been a flawed character. He's in no way perfect. He's made more mistakes in his lifetime than hundreds of people combined, so to show him make a mistake in that way -- I mean, he's a guy, to show him respond to his nature, his instinct -- I think that's a bold and right choice. I supported that.

Now that Klaus is the central figure of the show, should we expect to see him as the hero of this story, or is he still maintaining his villain status?

I think I'd go as far as to say anti-hero. He's definitely not a hero. He does awful things in the pilot; he makes one of the most disgusting emotional choices we've ever seen him make. He's not the villain of this piece. We're rooting for him -- I hope we're rooting for him, or the show's not going to work. That's what attracted me to the show. I would've never thought that the guy who came in and slaughtered Aunt Jenna could have his own show and people would actually be hoping he'd succeed. I think as long as we keep showing the cracks, the glimpses of vulnerability, we'll root for him. He's an anti-hero. I think, if I stand for anything, it's that if this goes to series, the eventual tale could be the tale of Klaus's salvation.

Spoiler From TV Line - 22nd April 2013

The Vampire Diaries‘ Klaus and Caroline have formed a twisted friendship as of late — but what comes next? Here is an exclusive first look at an upcoming scene between the two, and it appears that a big, confrontational turn in their relationship is ahead.

On the May 2 episode (The CW, 8/7c), the blonde vamp has a “confusing and dangerous encounter” with the Original, the official episode description says. Is Caroline confused about her feelings for Klaus? And does the photo look “dangerous” as in violent, or on the cusp of a passionate moment?

Do you think the pair will stay purely platonic, cross the line into something more or go back to being sworn enemies?

Joseph Morgan Interview

Klaus and Caroline (Candice Accola) are now officially “friends.” At this point, where are his head and heart when it comes to her?

Klaus is still very much enamored with her. Look, he felt he was dying and called Caroline. Not his sister. Not his brother. That says a lot about where he is in terms of his feelings towards her. We had that episode where Caroline was dying (Into the Wild) and she said, “I know you’re in love with me.” Klaus wants to believe he is, that he is someone capable of love. We’ll see how it plays out, but he’s definitely on board with the idea of being with her.

It sounds like Klaus is going a little soft.

A little soft? Not really, no. What is great is we’re getting to explore more of his vulnerable side, certainly in last night’s episode (American Gothic) where he believed he was dying. We absolutely got to explore some of that fear and vulnerability. The thing about Klaus is just as soon as you start to like him and believe he’s a better person, he goes out and slaughters 12 hybrids with a sword or kills someone’s mom. I believe until the end of this character, whenever that may be, I’ll continue to go through these cycles of vulnerability. He has his ups and downs, which is what makes him such a wonderful character to play.

Over the course of the series, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) transitioned from this coldhearted psychopath into a tortured antihero. Is the same possible with Klaus?

It would be nice if The Originals go to series, if it’s ultimately the story of Klaus’ redemption. But I wonder if anyone will really, truly forget about Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning) and the other people Klaus has put in the ground. He has a thousand years of murdering and doing what he wants to get his way. I wonder how quickly you can be redeemed for that. And redemption in whose eyes? I would like to think it is possible for him, but it’s going to take a little work.

Not long ago, Klaus was magically trapped in the Gilberts’ living room and hell-bent on revenge. Is all that anger water under the bridge?

Oh no. He spent 500 years chasing Katerina. No, he’s a man who bears a grudge. Your perception of time when you’re that old is a little different. It doesn’t mean revenge has to be immediate. The Mystic Falls Scooby Doo Gang put him down at the end of season three and he hasn’t even forgiven them for that. He’s chased Tyler (Michael Trevino) out of town. Klaus has done a few things to move towards that, but he’s not the kind of man to let a grudge go.

How has Klaus’ little encounter with Silas affected him?

Now that Klaus has realized Silas can get inside his mind like that, that he can manipulate him in a way no one else has been able to do… Klaus always likes to be the Alpha. He likes to be the strongest in the room and the most powerful. It’s worrying for him that there is a being out there capable of not only killing him, but making him believe he was dying. That will always be a thorn in his side. It’s not a nice thing to not be in control of yourself, which is what he felt for in the episode last night.

Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) are heading back to Mystic Falls with the cure. What is that family dynamic like? How does Klaus view his siblings?

He’s not on good terms with Rebekah. She’s convinced she wants to be human again, wants to love, which he can’t really get on board with or understand. They’ve been at odds since she destroyed his ability to create any more hybrids. He will be more pleased to see Elijah. He’s wanted to see his brother for a while and Elijah is coming home with the cure, which is what Klaus needs to get Silas off his back. There’s a practical pleasure for Klaus there, in that Elijah is bringing home the very thing he needs. But also, he misses his brother, as he would his sister if she had been away too long. I always say this family is one that can do horrible things to each other, as long as no one else does anything to them. Then, suddenly, you’ll see how close they really are.

Can you preview the next few episodes, especially The Originals, which is serving as a backdoor pilot for a possible The Originals spinoff?

The next episode is going to build towards The Originals, so we’re going to see Klaus and Elijah reunited. We’re going to see what happens with the cure, at least in terms of where Elijah feels it would be most beneficial and who the cure should go to. We’re also going to see what takes Klaus to New Orleans for the spinoff episode. The spinoff episode is bookended by scenes in Mystic Falls. It starts with Stefan (Paul Wesley), Damon and Elena (Nina Dobrev) and ends with them, but everything in between is how it will be should it go to series. It’s amazing. It’s epic and a bigger story. For Vampire Diaries, it’s more of small-town stories and coming of age with humans and creatures involved. The Originals goes into why Klaus goes to New Orleans. We’ll meet all these new characters, some from his past and some new. We’ll see the world on a bigger scale. The Originals is building towards a war between two species and the struggle that exists there. You can expect a lot of Klaus screen time as well, which was a lot more work for me than an episode of Vampire Diaries. That was a new and fantastic challenge.

Lastly, why do viewers hate to love Klaus? Are you surprised he’s emerged as this fan-favorite character?

I was initially surprised. I didn’t set out to make him relatable, although maybe the writers did. I just knew there were parts of him that I related to and I tried to bring those out. I tried to have a reason for everything he did. He was always the child that was loved the least and his father’s least favorite. He was always struggling for his mother’s affections. By giving the character roots, reasons and motives like that, I was giving him a strong foundation. So every situation he found himself in, I could build from that. So yeah, it was surprising, but it gave me an opportunity to show his more vulnerable sides. He’s an immensely flawed character and I think I can be bold and say all of us are really flawed to a certain extent. Nobody is perfect. I hope there are little pieces of Klaus everyone can relate to…  This guy who keeps messing things up for himself, again and again and again.

Spoiler From Zap2It - 1st April 2013

Klaus, Rebekah, and Elijah will be heading to New Orleans in Episode 20 this season for "The Originals" spin-off episode... but that doesn't mean they're just going to stay in NoLa, killing time and waiting for the fall TV season. We can tell you that Episode 20 isn't the last we'll see of Klaus this season on "The Vampire Diaries." Unfinished business in Mystic Falls, perhaps?

The Originals: The Redemption Of Klaus & The Unraveling Of Elijah?

Daniel Gillies’ Elijah returns to The Vampire Diaries tonight, and as he’s already teased for us, Elijah’s going to “shock and possibly even horrify.” That’s something fans might need to get comfortable with…

In the issue of Entertainment Weekly hitting stands Friday, we have the exclusive first look at the April 25 backdoor pilot for the Originals spin-off. When Klaus (Joseph Morgan) gets word that witches in New Orleans — a town now run by his protégé Marcel (The Game‘s Charles Michael Davis) — are conspiring against him, he goes to the French Quarter to explore the threat and Elijah follows. What they find is an opportunity to reunite their family in a city they helped settle, but the larger arc for the show might surprise fans even more: “With luck, over a long stretch of time and many, many seasons,” Plec says, “The Originals will ultimately be the redemption tale of Klaus and, possibly, the unraveling of Elijah, who is going to have to maybe get his hands dirty in an effort to keep his brother in check.”

As she’s stated before, it was producers’ appreciation for Gillies’ controlled turn as noble Elijah that birthed the idea of an Original family in season 2 (as initially conceived, he and Klaus weren’t brothers). Gillies says he’s excited to see whatever future the writers script for Elijah, but frankly, he’s more interested in how they could exploit the millennium-old Originals’ pasts. “I’d like to see more of what they’ve uncovered about being vampires, whether that’s flight, or jumping, or invisibility. Those are the supernatural abilities,” he says, “and then you’ve got the abilities that you could learn within a thousand years: What instruments do they play? What degree have they earned in a certain type of kung fu? Which one of them ice sculpts? I’d love to see the extent of their knowledge and skill.”

Klaus, on the other hand, was never supposed to survive season 3: “He was the big bad. You don’t let the big bad live. The big bad’s gotta go, otherwise your heroes start to look foolish for being unable to destroy him,” Plec says. One full season of Klaus was all Morgan wanted too, at first. “I thought that’s sort of enough, because where can it go from there? I don’t want him to turn good and hanging out at the Mystic Grill,” he recalls. But then came Klaus’ teary-eyed, fatal standoff with Mikael in season 3′s ninth episode. “It was one of the first chances I had to really show another side to Klaus entirely with someone who had persecuted him all of his life and where some of that hatred and evil comes from,” Morgan says. “That was when I started to think there’s something in this. He’s not just there as a device to serve the hero’s story line.” (Luckily, he mentioned that to the show’s line producer. “And he said, ‘You know, you should tell Julie because everybody’s under the impression that you want to be done after this season,’” Morgan says.)
“The choice to keep Klaus past season 3,” Plec adds, “was truly born out of how magnificent Joseph is and how much the audience was connecting to him in spite of hating him. They loved to hate him. So knowing that we had a character that powerful, and that there was a spin-off opportunity there, it let us spend season 4 getting Klaus to the place where the character was ready to be the lead of another show. He’s a villain whose family and the people in his life are constantly searching for ways to find redemption for him, and he’s constantly fighting against that instinct. So now, with luck, we get to make a whole series about it.”

And how does Morgan feel now about the possibility of Klaus being saved? “I can say I trust the writers a lot more than I did initially,” he admits, laughing again. “I know wherever they take Klaus, it will be layers on the character that he already is. It won’t be a sudden change of direction where he’s suddenly good. He will always have done these terrible things which he has done, and so he will always have these things to haunt him. I think he possibly is capable of redemption, if there was someone understanding enough to forgive him…. It would be a tremendous character arc.”
