Some of the those “uncomfortable truths,” when spoken, will draw
audible gasps/empathy groans from fans. The script certainly elicited a
response from Holt. “I was so excited, I texted showrunner Julie Plec immediately after I read it, and I was like, ‘Ohmygosh, thank you so
much. I love this episode,’” Holt says. “It was one of the few moments
where Rebekah truly is in control and she loves that. It was so fun to
play this ‘Truth or Dare’ game. It was one of my favorite episodes.”
We know from the promo that Rebekah and Klaus’ brother Kol (Nathaniel
Buzolic) also returns in the episode. “He’s there to help Rebekah get
the answers that she wants, and he brings Shane [David Alpay] to the
school for questioning as well,” Holt says. “The result isn’t too great
for Shane.”
As for Rebekah’s relationship with Klaus, Holt says, “She’s so
devastated that he’s betrayed her. He’s done it so many times now, I’m
not sure that they’re going to be able to rebuild that trust. It would
take a lot and be a long journey for them, if they were to ever be as
close as they used to be. Both of them now are more out for themselves.
Her goal it to find the cure, and she doesn’t really care about anyone
else.”
It’s tough to tell whether that makes it more or less likely that the
proposed Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals, centered on Klaus,
would have a place for Rebekah. “We haven’t read a script yet for the
April TVD episode that will serve as backdoor pilot,” Holt says. “I guess we’ll just have to wait to find out.”

Julie Plec On 'Delena' and 'Stebekah'
I think the takeaway, ultimately, is that Elena believes it so fundamentally that in that moment, it’s enough for Damon to let himself believe too. Yes, of course, the question is still gonna exist and always gonna exist. This isn’t necessarily the end-all, be-all now that that word ["love"] has been spoken. The doubt is still gonna be there. And it’s gonna continue to eat at Damon for the next few episodes. Elena’s gonna continue to have to fight for it in how much she believes it. But in this moment, it’s these two people who have been trying so hard to do the right thing and stay away from each other, and after two really long horrible days, they just need to touch base with each other. Just letting himself allow it to be real for one small moment is enough for Damon. And by the way, that song [Snow Patrol's "New York," playing during the phone call], that was the song that we wanted to use during the Damon-Elena kiss in episode 10 last year, and we lost it a week before we were going to air it. So I had that song in my back pocket for a year waiting for the right moment to use it again.
Stefan and Rebekah teaming up is a nice twist.
We’ve seen Stefan self-destruct in many different ways, and they’re usually pretty dark and pretty violent. We thought that an interesting take on his response to losing his girl, to feeling lied to and betrayed, to having his heart shredded, would be to become singularly focused on getting that cure to put an end to all this misery — whether it be for himself and Elena, or maybe he just wants to shove it down Damon’s throat, who knows [Laughs] — and to align with probably the most self-destructive partner. He’s proverbially getting into bed with Elena’s mortal enemy. So we just got excited about the juicy opportunity for that partnership.
Rebekah made a point of saying that Klaus had erased how Stefan felt about her from Stefan’s mind. Are those feelings going to resurface? Is that a new question to add to the mix?
Well, you know, we had this magnificent chemistry that we hit on when we first introduced her character, and then each of their individual stories took them in a different direction, so it’s something that we’ve never been able to revisit. And yet, it did exist, even though Stefan was a much different person. Now I think there’ll be a little bit of a nostalgia attached to a time when they were both in a much different place. I don’t see a world where Stefan wakes up and says, “Ohmygosh, I’ve been with the wrong girl all along.” I don’t think that’s the case at all. In fact, I think he pretty much loathes Rebekah and everything she stands for. But, there are some good memories there that will resurface and give them pause.

Interview With Nathaniel Buzolic
“For me personally, growing up in a single parent household was one of the strongest influences growing up. I love my mum, but also learnt that it was gonna take a lot of hard work to get to where I wanted to be with my career. Created really good habits and less expectation that I would get what I want unless I worked hard for it.”
You’re an avid snowboarder and a keen photographer. If it were a toss up of a fun snowboarding holiday or an African wildlife safari ripe with photo opportunities, which would it be?
“That is a tough question. I love to board. When I’m heading down a mountain, I can forget about the world for a short while. But I do love to capture beauty in this world. And photos can last the test of time. So I would have to do with the safari just in the hope that I would get the perfect shot.”
Were there any special preparations you had to do in order to prepare for your role as Kol in The Vampire Diaries?
“Essentially, I had to discover my naughty side. Haha! ‘Cause Kol does not worry about accountability for his actions. But also, I had to work on an English accent. It’s an accent that isn’t the most comfortable for me to fall in, so before shooting I really try to work on that.”
It’s been said that you love pirates. Did you ever have a pirate themed birthday party as a child?
“I think my fascination came much later in life with pirates. I’d have a themed party this year if I could … PIRATES IT IS!”
Tell us about the tattoo on your wrist.
“My tattoo says Take Heart, it’s actually taken from the bible, john 16:33 it was one of the last things Jesus shared with his disciples before dying on the cross. Essentially the message is this: In life you’re gonna face troubles, but TAKE HEART because I have overcome the world. I hold on these words pretty tightly.”
What can we expect from Kol in further episodes of The Vampire Diaries?
“Kol will be making his return to Mystic falls this week! And he may not be a happy camper this time.”
Besides the vampire aspect of The Vampire Diaries, how does your portrayal/experience of Kol differ to other parts you’ve played?
“This role is the biggest jump from reality I’ve taken. I’ve played a lot of different characters, but generally, they have still been kept in reality. I like playing characters that are a stretch and a suspension of belief has to be taken.”
You’ve mentioned that you have a love for storytelling, a factor that’s lead you to acting. Have you ever considered a career as a writer?
“If I could improve my grammar and spelling! Ha-ha. I have dyslexia, so unfortunately, I might be able to write something good, but it would be in complete CODE.”
What has been the highlight for you as Kol during Season 3?
“Definitely being able to work with the likes of Claire, Joseph, and Daniel Gillies. I love my original family!”
Are you working with/involved with any worthwhile causes or projects at the moment? (If yes, please share a few details.)
“Absolutely, extremely passionate about putting an end to modern day slavery. Today there are more slaves in history then ever before, and sadly, woman and children account for the bulk of the 27 million people who are enslaved. I would urge everyone who considers them self free to visit enditmovement.com and show your support by donating or signing the petition. The world needs to stand up to the people who subject others to this injustice.”
What is the best thing about being part of The Vampire Diaries?
“Well besides the great cast, crew, and scripts that we as actors get to play with! I actually have fallen in love with the city of Atlanta. So for me it’s always nice to get out of LA and be in what I call my spiritual home!”
Career wise, what do you hope to achieve beyond your role as Kol?
“I’m expecting big things this year. In a perfect world, I will fall into the world of film over here. But I would love to continue to develop the role of Kol for TVD audiences and hopefully get on a couple of other shows before the year is out. Who knows? It’s in God’s hands and I trust him completely.”

Vampire Diaries 4x13 Official Synopsis
Ep 13 - Into The Wild
MYSTERIOUS ISLAND — Shane (guest star David Alpay) leads an expedition
to a desolate island off the coast of Nova Scotia, where he believes the
secret of the cure lies hidden. On the trek to the island’s interior,
Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) continue their bitter
rivalry, Stefan (Paul Wesley) does his best to keep the peace, and Damon
(Ian Somerhalder) accuses Shane of leading them into a trap. Bonnie
(Kat Graham) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) try to figure out the
message of the Hunter’s mark, while Shane reveals more of the legend of
Silas and the witch Qetsiyah, along with his own personal history. Back
in Mystic Falls, Tyler (Michael Trevino) confronts Klaus (Joseph
Morgan), and Caroline (Candice Accola) is caught up in the violence that
follows. Michael Allowitz directed the episode written by Caroline
Dries (#413).
Julie Plec On The Originals Spin Off
It’s actually something that we’ve been talking about for two years, that we contemplated trying to get off its feet last year, but there was just too much work to do in too little time. So that gave us an opportunity this year to spend a lot more time putting it together — seeing if, obviously, our actors had any interest whatsoever continuing the life of these characters [Laughs] and if there was a story to tell. It all came together in a way that we finally felt would not detract from our most important baby right now, The Vampire Diaries, and would give us a chance to expand the universe with characters that we’ve had another year to get to know.
What can you tease about the April 25 episode?
The idea is that a turn of events in Mystic Falls sends Klaus to New Orleans to solve a mystery. He gets word that some people are making a move against him that might concern him. So he heads to New Orleans to try to figure who’s plotting against him and what they’re up to. And in unfolding that mystery, it takes him back to a town that several hundred years ago, he was actually one of the original settlers of and helped build. He reacquaints himself with a vampire that he actually turned back in the day, Marcel, who has created a whole set of rules and a whole society for the supernatural community that he’s in charge of — sort of tipping his hat to Klaus and saying, “You taught me everything I know.” So Klaus’ protegé is now the big king of the supernatural community in New Orleans and Klaus is stepping back into that.
Have you cast Marcel?
No, we start casting, I think, in the next week or two.
How would you describe him?
He is the life of the party. He is diabolical, and dangerous, and he is a rock star. If anything, he’s that kind of hard-partying, hard-living vampire who knows how to enjoy the most out of life in the French Quarter.
And so if it were to go to series, New Orleans would remain the setting.
Yes. When I talked about it to the network and the studio, I said, “In its own way, the French Quarter, with its less than 3,000 inhabitants, is the ultimate small town.” So it’s still a small-town story, it’s just a town that we all know pretty well. We all have our own party fantasy that we’ve either lived or wanted to live in New Orleans.
Fans have been wondering what could keep Klaus occupied, and how Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) will get involved.
That is all part of the big mystery. I will say no one should assume anything about the way this is gonna play out, because with luck, it will be a nice surprise for everybody.
Would there be a role for Elijah (Daniel Gillies) in the spinoff, because there needs to be.
Oh, in the world of Julie Plec [Laughs] and her obsession with Daniel Gillies, there is always a role for Elijah. It’s only a matter of whether in Daniel Gillies’ world there is an interest in having a job with Julie Plec. But I can hope the answer is yes.
So you have talked to him about the possibility.
Yes. Absolutely. You’d have to ask him where he stands…. By the way, make sure it’s clear that I’m being ironic when I refer to myself in the first person. [Laughs]
What about Rebekah (Claire Holt)? She’s back in the picture this Thursday, when TVD returns with new episodes, but she and Klaus aren’t exactly happy with one other.
Right now, she’s really mad at him, and their relationship has several more mountains to climb in the next, even, five episodes, much less a future series. I think she’s another character that would be a tremendous asset to both shows. So it really all comes down to Rebekah’s future, and Claire’s future with Rebekah, and all that stuff that remains undetermined.
Would you have the title of showrunner on both shows?
I think. Truthfully, we haven’t talked about that other than that I would likely share that title with Caroline Dries on The Vampire Diaries and then be the showrunner on The Originals. The great thing about The Vampire Diaries is that Caroline has really come into her own over the three-plus years she’s been on the show and is a terrific leader, and an amazing writer, and knows the show inside and out. So I would still be there every step of the way, but she would be taking on a lot more responsibility than she already has. And Mike Narducci, who’s someone else who’s been very important on The Vampire Diaries, would come over to The Originals and take up the mantle there. So with luck, two brilliant people who’ve grown up in a Vampire Diaries universe can continue to be brilliant as we split it over two shows.

Spoiler From TV Guide - 15th January 2013
Well, before it can be found it must be looked for. Claire Holt, who plays the Original Rebekah, tells us the location of the cure may be where you'd least expect it. "The search is going to take everyone to a little island off of Nova Scotia," she says. Even for vampires Canadian healthcare is better!

Interview with Claire Holt
Rebekah is going to come back with a vengeance! She’s going to be angry and looking to take some people down. I think that every time she’s burned, she gets a little more stone cold and she definitely wants to enact revenge on — in particular — Stefan, Elena, and Caroline, who she questions at the high school in "After School Special". It was a really fun episode to shoot. There’s a lot of torture and manipulation going on — it’s going to be a big episode for sure!
What about Klaus? He’s the one who orchestrated Rebekah’s daggering. Will she be making him a prime target as well?
Rebekah, in this specific episode, is going to focus on retrieving answers from Stefan, Elena and Caroline. She’s going to question them about the hunter tattoo, the cure, and definitely Elena’s relationships — and she really wants to find out what they know about it.
There have been rumors floating around that Rebekah and Stefan might grow closer throughout the season. Does their relationship shift at any point and how so?
I think that’s a spoiler and I can’t really give away too much. [Laughs.] However, I think that the dynamic between them will definitely change – at least after all the torturing. In "After School Special" Rebekah questions Elena and Stefan and this will bring some uncomfortable truths to light.
We love how casual that mention of torture was. Just another day in the life of Rebekah Mikaelson!
[laughs] It’s just what Bex does, right? This time around though, her torturing has more of a psychological twist. She has some fun little ‘Truth or Dare’ games planned for them.
Rebekah recently gave Matt a new truck as a way of saying sorry. Do you think that her sentiments are sincere?
She doesn’t like to be vulnerable so that’s her way of extending the olive branch. All this time, Rebekah has just wanted to be loved and feel loved by someone — and she has feelings for Matt so I think that’s her way of trying to express that. But I personally wouldn’t give someone a truck. [Laughs]
We wouldn’t classify Bex as evil but she’s definitely misunderstood. She just wants to find her place in the world. Will we see a significant change in her growth as a person this Season?
I think so. In her quest for the cure, I think she definitely learns how to relate to people a little better. You’re going to see her grow as a character — especially as she realizes that it’s not all about manipulating or torturing others to get what she wants. It’s not just about being the bad girl anymore so that was a nice change for me to explore.
We’re very excited about The Originals spin-off. Can we expect to find Bex living it up with Klaus in New Orleans at any point?
[laughs] That is probably something that Julie Plec will have to answer for you. You never know what might happen though! However, I think that it is going to be such a great show and any extension of The Vampire Diaries, with its incredible fanbase and a showrunner like Julie. It was exciting for me to see Phoebe Tonkin cast in the show as well. We’ve been best friends since we were 16-years-old and working on H20: Just Add Water in Australia, so that was wonderful news.
Elena, Bonnie, and Caroline recently had a girl’s night. What would an ideal night out for Rebekah and her new BFF April be like?
[Laughs] I don’t know if Rebekah and April are going to have a chance to hang out in that capacity. She’s not really that good at maintaining friendships. However, if she were to have a fun time, it would involve dancing and a party and maybe some blood drinking. She does put herself on the outs with the girls in Mystic Falls so I’m not sure that’s going to happen.
Poor Rebekah! Will she at least get to live out her simple dream of attending ONE school dance?
She definitely would like to get dressed up and attend a school dance and that is definitely brought up. However, I can’t reveal whether she actually makes it to one or not. You’ll have to watch. [Laughs]
We love seeing tweets and pics from the cast and crew throughout the day. Is there any particular moment in filming Season 4 that was especially fun for everyone?
We always have a wonderful time but, recently, while embarking on a journey for the vampire cure, we filmed scenes on the island of Nova Scotia. It was a really exciting experience. A lot of the times, the cast is not filming scenes together — so whenever there are a lot of us in one location, there’s always a riot.
You were also on another one of our shows, Pretty Little Liars. What was that experience like compared to working on TVD’s set?
Well, I played completely opposite characters. On Pretty Little Liars I played a lesbian and, on Vampire Diaries, I portray an badass vampire. But you know what? On both shows, the cast, the crew, the writers, and the producers — they all work so hard and are so lovely. I came on later in the Seasons and I never felt like I crashing the party. Everyone was so welcoming and pleasant. I’ve been very blessed. Both series are amazing and, obviously, I’ve stuck around on The Vampire Diaries a little longer and I’m enjoying every minute of it.
You’re always posting amazing pictures from your trips. What’s your favorite personal adventure story from all your recent travels?
I just went to Colorado with my whole family. They came out from Australia for Christmas. I think that’s been my favorite adventure this year. We had no snow so skiing was terrible and we were skiing over rocks and ice…[Laughs]. But still – any time I get together with my family, it’s always a riot.
Have you and Phoebe had any adventures yet in Atlanta?
You know what, we haven’t yet because we haven’t had any scenes together. We’re always filming at different times, but you never know. I’m really hoping that it might happen in 2013. We’ll see.
What’s your favorite attraction in Atlanta that fans should definitely visit if they plan a trip down there?
Hmm…. Oh I know! It has the largest aquarium in the world! I recently went to it about two weeks ago and it was so much fun! They have huge sharks.
We recently spotted you at the 2013 Golden Globes and you look gorgeous! That being said, that Oscars are coming up and we were wondering if you had any top picks for Best Picture?
My favorite is Silver Linings Playbook hands down. It was so incredibly good. And I loved Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence’s performance so I’m rooting for them as well. I know everyone says Lincoln because it’s a true American story and Daniel Day Lewis was incredible in it but Silver Linings Playbook was just amazing so I’m going to go with that!
