Torrey Talks About Her Role As Dr. Meredith Fell
Just getting to be on the show alone was a draw enough, but as I have gotten to know this character more, I have just really start to love her more and more. She's smart, sharp, strong and straight forward. I love getting to portray females that have a backbone
What hints can you give us about Meredith's motives regarding Alaric - do you think she is a danger to him, as Damon suspects?
That I can not say, but I can say for the sake of Alaric's tragic love track record, I hope she turns out to be good for him and this lasts for a little bit.
Are there any hints that Meredith Fell is somehow related to Logan Fell, from Season 1 and what her background is?
Same last name, same blood line. She comes from a long line of founders.
You get to work a lot with Matt Davis, did the chemistry with you two come naturally or did it take some time to develop?
Yeah, definitely. I have really enjoyed working with Matt. I think he is a great actor and has a really great sense of humor. He and everyone else on the cast made me feel really comfortable coming into all this.
Is there anything you can tease about how long we’ll be seeing Meredith in Mystic Falls?
That's a good question that I would like to get answered myself! ha! I really don't know how long she will be sticking around for. I just keep learning things script by script!
What are some of the benefits of getting to work with your husband Paul Wesley?
Our work schedules are so opposite, we rarely ever see each other on set. But being in the same state for a while is definitely a perk to the job.
You’re a part of the social networking site Twitter, why was it important for you to join and connect with fans that way?
I actually resisted witter for a very long time. It was the coercion of my manager that forced me to join. I just never felt like I had anything poignant enough to say, or didn't see the point of it. But I have to say, now that I am on it not only do I get it, but I really like it! It's fun to see what the fans are saying about things. I have also connected with a lot of fans about things like Hospice work as well. I have had a lot of people get involved in volunteering with their local Hospice because of Twitter which has been just incredible!
Tell us a bit about the work you and Paul do with Global Roots, and what fans can do to support you.
Global Roots is an organization that Paul and I felt was pure and had a really beautiful intention that we wanted to support. We are both hoping that if our schedules permit it we will be taking a service trip to go work in one of the childrens' gardens this summer. Anything as little as donating a dollar helps!
What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
First that I think it is amazing that I HAVE fans and supporters! And secondly thank you! All the kind words and support I receive is just mind blowing. I hope to continue putting out work that everyone enjoys watching!
Kat Graham Confirms Upcoming Confrontations Will Result In Death
Interview from EW
Now that we know the originals are ALL here, and ready to have a ball (literally and figuratively) with the gang from Mystic Falls, I can share with you a fun conversation I had with the lovely Kat Graham while on the set of Vampire Diaries this week, in which we talked a little bit about the episodes (and CHAOS!) to come. “The show is very epic. The storylines move really really quick. It's definitely one of the fastest storylines I’ve ever been a fan of watching or that I’ve been involved with. So there will be developments that are going to happen in every episodes” she says. “The episodes with the originals are going to start reaching a head and you’re not going to know whose going to die and whose going to survive and what plans really are going to work this time. And what plans are going to be stopped and thwarted. So some really massive confrontations are definitely going down… that WILL result in death.”
With no one safe, Graham is simply counting her lucky stars that this year has given her such a meaty and satisfying storyline with her mother (played by Persia White). And while their coffin mission might be over, Graham says the same certainly can’t be said for their mother-daughter issues. “There’s still stuff to hash out,” she says. “If somebody does something to you that really really hurts you and has created a ripple effect in your life, you don’t really forget about that and you have to go back and deal with them. You sort of go back into a protective mode because you feel like they’re going to go back and do it again. So Bonnie feels like her mother has to win her trust.”

Claire Holt Talks About Rebekahs Return
The Originals are back from the "dead" on The Vampire Diaries, and they have a bone to pick with Klaus.
On Thursday's episode "Bringing Out the Dead," Klaus' sister Rebekah (Claire Holt) was undaggered by her brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies). But it's not exactly a happy reunion for the siblings as Rebekah recently learned that Klaus (Joseph Morgan) was the one who killed their mother 1,000 years ago.
"He's absolutely going to feel some aggression aimed toward him," Holt told TVGuide.com on our recent visit to the Atlanta set. She's so unhappy about the fact that he lied to her all this time and she feels betrayed by him."
Of course, Rebekah isn't the only one who should be angry. Esther (Alice Evans) shocked Klaus when she was freed from that mysterious fourth coffin. "[Rebekah] is really excited to have her mother back and [now they'll be] a powerful unit," Holt adds.
Watch the video for more on what Rebekah's return means for Elena and how the family will wreak havoc during next week's big formal ball
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder Talk Romance!
Elena and Damon! Elena and Stefan ! Elena and...Matt?!
On The Vampire Diaries, Elena (Nina Dobrev) is torn between two brothers—one who killed her own brother (Ian Somerhalder) and one who almost killed her (Paul Wesley). Oh, and both have tried to turn her into a vampire. Talk about romance! So which brother will she choose...if she chooses at all?
"The love triangle is back on, and she's between brothers yet again," Dobrev teases. "It can go in either direction or neither direction. If I were Elena I'd probably want to step back and take a break from the Salvatores, no matter how brooding, lovely and dangerously delicious they are. It's just a lot. I think Elena needs to take a break."
Somerhalder seems to agree with his costar, guessing, "I think she is probably done with the Salvatore boys for a while." In fact, he thinks Damon has no chance with Elena. "I think Matt (Zach Roerig) or Tyler (Michael Trevino) or even the family dog would have a better chance of getting Elena than Damon would," he bluntly says. "The things that this man has done to this poor teenage girl is an insurmountable amount of bad. I just don't foresee her turning unless he can just get her away from vervain and just compel her to forget everything he's ever done."
And he's about to do something else he'll probably want Elena to forget, which includes getting with another lady. Tsk-tsk! While we asked Dobrev for the specifics and whether or not we'll see Elena's jealous side, she would only say, "Damon is Damon. Damon does and says things impulsively and because of his actions...he gets himself into trouble sometimes. He does things that will have consequences, whether for the good or the bad."
With Damon getting nekkid with someone else and Stefan attempting to drive her off bridges and turn her into a vampire, Elena will turn to another guy for support: her ex-boyfriend Matt, whom she recently reconnected with via a symbolic funeral on the very bridge her parents died on.
"She's definitely going to be leaning towards Matt, looking to him for advice and his opinion and his support," Dobrev explains. "He's the last human she has in her life that she can trust and confide in and that she has a history with." Dobrev was quick to point out, "That doesn't always mean romantic, but they do have a romantic history, so who knows?"
As for what's ahead for the former couple, Roerig teases, "Elena is probably going to be pretty busy with her vampires, but I also think that she's starting to realize that Matt is that guy that will always be there. Whether he falls in love with someone else or is with someone else, she can always go back to him."
Daniel Gillies Interview
Interview from theinsider.com
Were you surprised that the reveal of Elijah's return stayed secret until the episode actually aired?
I was – especially with today's online media. We filmed so much in the studio, but one day Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Joseph Morgan and myself filmed a scene in the middle of an alley and there were crowds of people watching. They all saw me. There was no hiding it. At one point, the director even screamed "Elijah go back to first position!" It's incredible to me that those people didn’t Tweet about it. I thought it would be ruined for sure.
Given the way he was put in the coffin, how is Elijah feeling towards Klaus at the start of tonight's episode?
He's pretty pissed off coming out of that coffin. Incredibly pissed off. Where he takes us is actually a very important storyline for the show that I can't blow the cover off of. But there's a good degree of apprehension and fear in how he proceeds with Klaus. Elijah doesn't feel like he can trust anyone – and I feel for him. He's experienced this whole kaleidoscope of betrayal. He doesn't enjoy what the family has become; they're a distortion of their former selves. They've become monstrous. And he seems to be looking for purity or attempting to uphold some sort of code, which seems strange to me given that everyone in this family is so corrupt.
What about the flipside -- Elijah went back on his word to Elena and Stefan the last he saw them. How do they feel about Elijah's return?
What's interesting is that I feel like that choice was congruent with the creature that Julie Plec is ultimately trying to create. There's betrayal and then there's betrayal. There's loyalty and there's loyalty. You're talking about Elijah's 1,000 year quest versus this short-term objective he pledged himself to. There was a degree of dishonor in him turning a cheek on that commitment but I think that the holy grail for Elijah at that point was his family.
Which will obviously come into play with tonight's episode -- what can you tease about Bringing Out the Dead?
Oh man. The lines are drawn in the sand tonight. Essentially this episode is going to precipitate the events of the next several episodes because of the way in which The Salvatores & The Originals figure out how their relationships will transpire. Essentially, as anyone can guess, the rules that Klaus might throw down are not really going to work for anybody. The genius and the genesis of that is at the dinner party.
The mortality of anyone in Mystic Falls is constantly in question -- so what do you as Daniel hope to do with Elijah before he is killed off the show, if he ever is?
I'd really like him to be an instrument in the destruction of Klaus. I don't see that happening without considerable damage or the complete loss of his own life. I think it will be one of those classic stories where a dark person takes down an even darker entity but take themselves out at the same time. Think of Darth Vader and the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. The only way The Emperor could be gone was for Darth to sacrifice his own life in the process, which makes it redemptive. Although, that said, I want to stick around as long as possible [laughs].
What about Elena? I still maintain that there's an unusual connection between those two.
I know it's a little obvious in the world of Vampire Diaries, where everyone falls in love with Elena, but I agree that Elijah sees something beautiful in her. I would love for him to express that to her before he goes. I feel like Elijah would be most drawn to her because she's living a better life than people who've lived for centuries longer. I think that's the sort of thing he's attracted to. Even it was just a moment, I'd love to see them share something -- but I think it should be more.
Elena vs. Katerina -- go!
It's funny because I know a lot of fans want Elijah with Katerina, but he's attracted to who a person is in their soul and Katerina is nowhere near the person Elena is. I think Elijah came to town thinking he'd deal with all this doppelganger business quickly and be done with it. But things got complicated when he saw this girl – I think Elijah fell for Elena harder than he ever fell for Katerina. In my opinion.
Do you think Elijah could take Damon in the fight for Elena's heart?
I mean, there's no question if we're talking about a physical fight – that's a joke. Elijah all the way. But romantically, I don't know. I also don't think Stefan is out of the picture really. Both Elijah and Daniel think Stefan is still the biggest romantic threat for Elena's heart.
Were you surprised that the reveal of Elijah's return stayed secret until the episode actually aired?

Joseph Morgan Interview
Interview from TVChick
The Vampire Diaries is back tonight, after what seemed like a very long week without it. When last we left our favorite residents of Mystic Falls, a certain original made his triumphant return (love you, Elijah!) What does this mean for Klaus? What about the others? I recently had the chance to chat with Joseph Morgan, who plays Klaus, one of my favorite supernatural beings. We talked about what’s coming up, why people root for Klaus, and he even asked me to establish the official Caroline/Klaus ‘shipper name. From searching, the consensus seems to be Carlaus (or Caralaus), so I’m going to go with that one. Whatever the name may be, I am excited about the possibility, even if they have a somewhat crazy history.
After the last episode, I believe I might have yelled “hell yes!” at my television. I’m very excited Elijah is back. How is that going to change things?
Well, he’s going to wonder what happened, isn’t he? Since I put the dagger in him. There’s also the whole matter of my mother to deal with and the truth about what happened to her now, which has come out. I’m sure he’s going to have something to say about that. There’s a confrontation brewing, I think.

I’m looking forward to it! And a couple weeks ago, I think every Vampire Diaries fan collectively swooned over the Klaus and Caroline scene (laughs).
(laughs)
(laughs)
I imagine Caroline isn’t going to be easy to win over though, so what can we expect from that new found relationship?
Well, that scene was actually one of my favorite scenes that they wrote for me. It was just a really beautiful seduction scene, really, I suppose. You’re right. She’s fully aware of who Klaus is and what he’s capable of, so it’s going to be a tough sell for him, I think. But he’s persistent and I think there’s something there, certainly. I watched that scene and saw there’s a connection there between them. And she does kind of acquiesce him at the end. She does say she wants to live and she drinks from him. And that’s a very intimate moment between those two people, or creatures, however you want to put it. So yeah, I think there is something there, but like you say, it’s going to take a little bit of work on his part.

Did you anticipate the fans would latch on so much to a possible relationship between the two of them?
The fans continue to surprise me. I knew that people would be interested to see another side to my character, in a scenario that we hadn’t kind of really experienced before, with her as well, which was unexpected to everyone, including myself when I got the script. But I didn’t expect — it’s funny, I was in a hotel for the CW Bad Boys Panel TCA thing I did in LA, and I watched the episode in a hotel room and I wanted to watch that scene again, so I looked it up on YouTube to see if anyone had posted it, and I just found pages and pages of Klaus and Caroline videos that people had sort of put together with music on them. And that was the day after. So yeah, I’m continually surprised by the fans and their commitment to the show. People really seem to respond to it. I think they’re debating what the ‘shipping name should be. Klaroline or Caralaus or something.

(laughs) I saw one that said For-iginal and I was confused by that one.
For-iginal? (laughs) That’s a stretch. Because there was ‘forwood,’ which was Lockwood and Forbes together, so I guess they were trying to expand on that.

They confuse me. I try not to look at those names because I can’t put them together.
I know. It takes me a while, sometimes, like who is that supposed to be? But it’s just another thing I’m learning being a part of The Vampire Diaries.
I know. It takes me a while, sometimes, like who is that supposed to be? But it’s just another thing I’m learning being a part of The Vampire Diaries.
We saw Klaus and Caroline in this unlikely friendship. Are we going to see Klaus make any more unlikely friends?
It’s interesting because every now and then they throw someone into the mix with me. Yeah, some unexpected camaraderie between certain characters. Let’s put it like that. There’s certainly some people you wouldn’t expect to see him with, yes. Someone who we haven’t met yet, that’s why I’m being cagey.

That makes sense. And we’re going to meet Klaus’ brothers soon. What is that dynamic going to be like?
Well, it’s interesting because again, the same with Elijah, except Klaus put all his family in these coffins and his two brothers — one of them I believe has been in the coffin around five hundred years — and the other one slightly less than that. But all of his family are under the assumption that his father killed his mother, so there’s going to be some answers. He’s going to have to answer some tough questions when they finally come back. So it’s going to be tough. I think he’s going to be hoping that they don’t all gang up on him, (laughs) try to bully him or something. But yeah, it’s going to be interesting. The writers have been really great with those two characters because they haven’t just made them sort of faceless bad-asses, they’ve really given them distinct personalities. So you’ll see, it’s interesting to watch the dynamic between all of the originals, just to see sort of how they function as a family. It’s very interesting, because we’ve seen a lot of Klaus, first and worst as this evil being, and then with his sister, who he obviously cared a lot about. So it’s interesting to see when those other dynamics are introduced.

Yeah, definitely. What about Klaus and Rebekah, when he eventually decides to un-dagger her? They are sort of the only two who got along…
They are, yeah. I think Rebekah is one of his siblings that he cares about the most, that he’s most attached to. And so I think he’ll be most worried about un-daggering her, hence why he put the dagger back in her in episode eleven, because he really, more than anything, fears disappointing her. And so he’s terrified she’ll abandon him and he’d rather have him in a coffin than out of the coffin, off on her own. So I think she is the confrontation that he’s most afraid of, because it’s that disappointment rather than anger from her that he’s really kind of terrified of seeing. So yeah, it’s going to be a huge deal for him. All of those guys coming out of the coffins will be a big thing for Klaus.

And there’s that extra coffin hanging around that we just saw Damon take…
Dun, dun, dun. Yeah.
Dun, dun, dun. Yeah.
Yeah! What could Klaus possibly have hiding in there?
Well, I can tell you that whatever it is, he’s pretty terrified of it. It’s something that could potentially destroy him. So it’s a very frightening prospect that coffin being open or being out of his control somewhere. He’s desperate to get his hands back on that coffin. I think it’s going to be a big surprise for everyone and very kind of exciting moment when we finally do find out what’s in that coffin. I’ve been reading all sorts of things over Twitter. Someone even wrote “I’ve got it! It’s Klaus’ twin.” So, I don’t know, I’d have to play two roles then, like Nina does. So I can confirm it’s not Klaus’ twin in the coffin. But kudos to that person for the idea, because that was a pretty exciting idea, I thought.

That was an interesting idea. I’ve heard a ton of theories, but I’m excited to find out. And Klaus kind of made a new enemy with Damon, so I’m interested to see how that plays out.
Yeah, you know, I love those confrontations with Ian. It’s been a slow build between he and I. Well, I say slow build, but we tried to kill each other in the first five or six scenes we had. And then we got a little kind of more cordial. So it’s interesting how this relationship develops because most of them share that kind of loose cannon quality.

Definitely. And even though Klaus has his doppelganger now, he doesn’t seem to be one to let go of unpaid debts or forget things. Is he going to ever revisit his vendetta against Katherine?
Oh, I’m sure, yeah. As we move closer towards the finale of the season, I wonder whether he’s going to want to tie up those loose ends. Katherine always comes in with a little part to play which is integral to the storyline, or that’s my experience, anyway. So, I don’t know the answer to that, but I would speculate yes.

And Klaus’ plans so far have not exactly worked out the way he wanted them to. We saw Tyler try to break his sire bond, and Damon stealing the coffin. What do you think Klaus’ motivations are for settling into Mystic Falls besides the coffin obviously?
Well, yeah, obviously the coffin. I think also the fact that it is so linked to the past, to his past and his family. It’s a very kind of interesting conflict with Klaus. Because on the one hand he wants all his power and he wants to be feared by everyone and he wants that feeling that he doesn’t need anybody. But at the same time, he’s going around trying to make friends, really. Isn’t he? He wanted Stefan to be his friend, that didn’t really work out, so he got this sire bond thing going with Tyler, wanted to take him under his wing. Now he’s got this mentor-student relationship with Caroline that may turn into something else. He really is a lonely guy. And I think even though the relationships he’s established in Mystic Falls are, for the most part, bad ones, they’re still relationships. They’re still something. And if he doesn’t know any different, he’ll cling on to what he’s got.
I find myself thinking about this a lot, because I root for Klaus. Is that why you think others root for Klaus even though he’s a little bit psycho.
Well, yeah, I think all people love a bad boy, and he certainly is that. But I think again, the writers are bringing in a more and more sort of human side of a scene, or the motives behind why he is like he is, and I think people are starting to relate to him. And I noticed especially after episode eleven with that scene with Caroline, a lot of people kind of came on to the idea that I’m really starting to like him. And that’s good for me, because I feel like there’s only so much you can do if you’re going to be two-dimensional, evil all the time. So it’s wonderful to see this character developing all of these layers. I think the more you understand someone, the more you like them.

What can you tease about the next episode and beyond that? I hear there is a big costume ball coming up soon.
I can say that there’s a huge costume ball. We all had to have dance lessons. It’s a lot of fun. And there’s a scene coming up with a particularly troublesome horse. It took so long to shoot. I’m sure it looks beautiful, but this horse would not behave itself. I nearly got hit in the mouth a bunch of times. But we can look forward to the ball and we can look forward to at least one more, how shall I say it, Klaroline scene? Or Caralaus? You can look forward to more of those. I’m sure that will make everyone happy.

(laughs) Once we figure out what the real ‘shipper name is…
Yeah. You establish it in your article.
Yeah. You establish it in your article.
Okay, I’ll do my best.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Lastly, I know you are a big Walking Dead fan, so I wanted to know your thoughts on the big, crazy finale.
Yeah! It was really crazy, wasn’t it? I loved it. Especially when the little girl came out of the barn at the end and you realize she’d been there the whole time and you saw Rick didn’t want to shoot these walkers who had been coming out the whole time and then he was the one, of course, who had to walk forward at the end and kill the little girl and make that tough decision. I just think it’s so good and Jon Bernthal is getting — it’s just such an interesting character. They’re all really, really good. Lauren Cohan, who used to be on Vampire Diaries. I think she’s wonderful in it. I was so impressed with it. I’m glad you asked about that.

The Real Nathaniel - The Man Behind the Fangs
Interview by Gabrielle Pickle
Introduced to the United States as Kol, the playful yet dangerous youngest brother of The Vampire Diaries original family, Nathaniel Buzolic is actually quite different from his fanged character. Oh, he is just as tall, dark and handsome in person, but unlike his alter ego, he is completely genuine, a true gentleman and one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever interviewed.
Sprawled out on the couch of his TVD dressing room, he fiddled with his new Canon camera while answering my questions in that ever so charming Australian accent. A native of Sydney, Nathaniel grew up in a low- income household with a dedicated single mom. “Some of my fondest childhood memories are of my beautiful mum driving me to practice and rehearsals 6 days a week so I could chase my dreams.”
Surprisingly, acting wasn’t his original dream. Young Nathaniel lived and breathed basketball until an injury side-lined him in year 9, but it was during his extended recovery that he discovered the magic of acting. “I remember the first time I got up on stage and was able to make people laugh,” and his face lit up at the memory as he described his transformation from a shy unpopular kid to an actor with a story to tell. “From that day on, I was hooked.”
At the prompting of his High School drama teacher, Nathaniel auditioned for the Australian Theatre and won a scholarship that launched his professional acting career. From there, life was a series of performances, auditions and rehearsals. As a High School Senior, he announced to his friends that he would one day make it to
Hollywood. They laughed at his big dreams, but 10 years later he is filming with The Vampire Diaries.
His humble upbringing clearly taught him to value people over possessions, something that is obvious on set as he pauses to chat with the Make-Up Artists or make a stressed Production Assistant laugh. “The best part of playing Kol is the great people I get to work with every day,” he told me before running off to converse with the show’s writer. And the cast and crew clearly love him as much as he loves them. “He’s my mate!” announced Joseph Morgan, the actor who plays the infamous Klaus, looping his arm around Nathanial’s shoulders with a cheeky grin. Off screen, Nathaniel and Joseph are the Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn of The Vampire Diaries cast, constantly joking around, or ‘mucking about’ as they call it, and coming up with grand schemes for new
TV shows. Yet on set, they transform into talented, professional actors plying their magnetic smirks on viewers everywhere.
Naming Leonardo Dicaprio, Johnny Depp and Health Ledger as his inspiration, Nathaniel admitted he is constantly in awe of their acting abilities. “I love watching them transform into a character in a way that creates a powerful, relatable story! For me acting is about conveying a story--creating something that affects people.” Storytelling is also the motivation behind his newfound love of photography, which captures a story in still frame, inspiring different reactions in each viewer.
Unable to resist any longer, I asked about the famous people he’s met. And right before my eyes, the laid back actor transformed into a giddy fan, “Well, there was the one time that I was passed over for a role and was really down about it. I went out to collect my thoughts and re-evaluate my goals. Then Johnny Depp walked in, and we had this super encouraging chat about acting, and it re-inspired me to push on!”
He hardly paused to breathe before exclaiming, “But the most amazing person I’ve ever met is the preacher Louie Giglio! He has been the catalyst for re-connecting me with my Saviour, Jesus Christ. I first heard him preach when my friend put his DVD, Indescribable, on in the car as we drove home from a snow trip. I recently attended Louie’s church in Georgia and was able to meet him in person! It was amazing – I’m such a fan! Pretty sure I talked his ear off!” He grinned unapologetically.
“Any deep secrets you care to share with your fans?” I asked on a whim as we wrapped up the interview. He blushed and ducked his head, “I secretly wouldn’t mind being a pirate... like Jack Sparrow!” All joking aside, though, Nathaniel openly shared his personal views on life and faith, hoping to encourage his fans with these final words. “Life is a gift, a gift that ultimately must be returned to our sender. I live by faith and believe in seeking the good so that my soul may shine and ripple through this world every day. If today is my last, I’ll act accordingly. Life’s a gift, so live in the present and always take heart!”

Joseph Morgan - What Will Devastate Klaus?
Get ready for more Originals story time with The Vampire Diaries' Klaus.
Even though we've already ventured back 1,000 years to see the big bad hybrid's life as a human, Joseph Morgan says we'll soon learn even more about his early years.
"We're going to learn about the ritual they went through to become vampires and also the ritual that made Klaus' werewolf side dormant," Morgan says.
And now that Elijah (Daniel Gillies) is back in the picture, it's only a matter of time before Rebekah (Claire Holt) returns with a vengeance.
"When somebody does finally pull the dagger out of her, he'll be more devastated than anything because he'll have let down the one person in the world he didn't want to let down, and that to him means more than any angry confrontation," Morgan says.
Ian Somerhalder, Joseph Morgan and Zach Roerig - TVD Interview
WE NEEDED THE VAMPIRE DIARIES SEASON 3 SCOOP SO BADLY we flew down to Atlanta, GA for an interesting brunch with the three most unlikely guys ever willing to share a cup of tea together: baddie Klaus, enemy Damon, and still-human Matt. Before tomorrow night’s thrilling episode.
Between everything that’s happened between Stefan and Damon with Elena, is there a lesser of two evils?
IAN SOMERAHALDER: I think they’re both pretty screwed up.
JOSEPH MORGAN: Yeah, I mean, in the real world, what each of them has done is unforgivable, isn’t it? Like, for neither of them would you say ‘oh, okay, I can kinda get past that’. Stefan did try drive her off a bridge…
ZACH ROERIG: I mean, she’ll always want to keep them around, because she still loved them… but I don’t think she’ll ever trust them again.
JOSEPH: It’s time for her to move on, you know?
IAN: Find another handsome duo… like Batman and Robin!
JOSEPH: I like that
IAN (to Joseph and Zach): Klaus and Matt!
ZACH: Yogi and Boo-Boo!
JOSEPH: I just can’t decide who’s the better bear for me! (Laughs)
IAN: But it is weird. It’s definitely weird- Julie Plec has this way of poetically justifying it, but I… I’ve gotten to the place where I’m just interested in seeing what happens to any of us. I quit asking questions, because I realize they don’t get me anywhere. But in a good way- this thing is just constantly ch-ch-changing!
JOSEPH: The lines are blurred, as well. [Elena] hasn’t been a saint, either, and she’s made decisions that have pushed them… things like taking the dagger out of Elijah that are really kind of risky and puts them in jeopardy as well. So there’s so much gray area.
IAN: Every single character is doing what they need to do by protecting themselves.
JOSEPH: What they think is best.
IAN: And it always gets someone in trouble; I was joking with Joseph- he’s been in L.A. for a week, working, resting, and eating , and being healthy… and I said “You look good, man, you’ve gained a couple of pounds,” and he says “I know, dude. It’s the Vampire Diaries Syndrome.’ Because when you’re here, you’re so… manic. When we’re at work all day, it’s not like everyday drama… this is epic!
JOSEPH: Exactly- you lose weight, doing this! It’s not like you’re sitting around and today is a scene where we all have a cup of tea, you know what I mean? It’s “okay, I’m screaming today!” or “I’m vamping!” or “we’re fighting!”
IAN: It’s not Parks and Recreation.
JOSEPH: That it ain’t!
To nitpick a bit, when Elena confesses to Stefan about the Damon-Elena kiss, she specifically says “I kissed Damon”, and not what it actually was, which was Damon making the move.
IAN: She doesn’t even say ‘I kissed him back’… she was just being honest. I think that she just wanted to be honest, because no one in Mystic Falls is honest. There’s so much ‘whodunit’, and everyone’s got a hidden agenda. I just don’t think she wanted to do that.
JOSEPH (to Ian): You think she was trying to hurt him?
IAN: Probably, yeah, but she was also… Elena’s not even that manipulative, I think she was just trying to say “Look, this happened.” And also, [she wanted] to see what his reaction would be, which was… you know. (Ian makes a fart sound)
ZACH: I think Elena’s also just ready to be loved. She’s just so ready to be taken care of.
IAN: For a second. There was Matt, and then the death of parental figures, and then five episodes of love with a sexy vampire man, and then…
ZACH: And now she’s got a mid-30s teacher living in her house! A total alcoholic!
IAN: (imitating drunk Alaric) Elena! I have only seven personalities, not ten!
I’ve always viewed Klaus as inherently selfish, and always using those who believe he’s trustworthy. As we go on, does he continue that trend, or can his newfound dynamic with Caroline change that?
JOSEPH: I think that there’s potential for him to change, yes, but it’s going to be really difficult. Because as well as being selfish, he’s incredibly paranoid. He’s spent the last 1000 years maintaining this lie he’s told his siblings. He’s the product of a dysfunctional family, having this horrible relationship with his father, being a bastard child, not feeling accepted by the rest of his family… so I think he has real issues with trust, and if he is gonna be a little more selfless with Caroline, he’s going to have to conquer them first.
IAN: I feel like Klaus is what happened with Rome, or like, Kublai Khan. He’s created this empire of deceit, and he has to keep it down to protect himself. It’s like what happened with Rome- Rome got so huge that it fell apart.
JOSEPH: Can we stop recording and go back and I’ll pawn that off as if it’s my answer? I feel like Klaus is like what happened with Rome, and I’ll tell you why!
IAN: (Laughs) Not to be too cerebral about it, but I don’t think anyone envies that aspect of Klaus at all.
JOSEPH: It’s a web of deceit that’s getting harder to maintain, so he becomes less and less trusting and he questions everyone’s motives, even though his are the ones that should be questioned. He doesn’t believe that anyone would be genuinely kind to him for that sake. So there’s potential for him to learn to trust, and possibly even to love, but it’s going to be a long journey.
IAN: He’s like the boyfriend of the girlfriend thinking that you’re cheating on them. But it’s actually him!
And Elijah is back, but as of tomorrow night’s episode (‘Dangerous Liaisons’), he doesn’t know who freed him. Will Klaus take advantage of that?
JOSEPH: Well, here’s one thing I can say: the next episode picks up exactly where the last one ended. So it’s great- immediately, you’re back in that room, and you see what happens straight afterwards with those guys.
IAN: Joseph, shut up!
JOSEPH: And what happens is… stop me! Stop me!

Candice Accola talks Klaus & Caroline
On Thursday, we pick up immediately where the last new episode left off, with Klaus and Elijah once again coming face-to-face (after Klaus stabbed him!) and, later, hosting a dinner party with the Salvatore brothers. “I think there’s definitely an element of fear — not necessarily afraid of what Elijah will do — but what it will mean for Elijah and their relationship,” Joseph Morgan told a group of reporters over brunch during EW’s visit to vamp land. “Their relationship has been founded on a lie that’s 1,000 years old, and so it’s a huge deal. He’s gotten away with it for a while.” (Ian Somerhalder jokes, “Geez, I used to lie to my brother for a couple of weeks and he’d be livid.”)
Meanwhile, says Morgan, the dinner party will put many of the feelings between the three front-and-center, making for a tense meeting. “This is going to be interesting because there’s all of that feeling, all of that tension from all of the fights and manipulation and history that’s been going on between these guys sitting around the dinner table,” he says. “It’s like a game of poker.”

Neither, however, are taking bets on how long it will be until the Elena-Stefan-Damon love triangle will find resolution. “I want what’s going to be the most interesting to happen,” says Somerhalder. “I don’t really know. Julie Plec was here for five days and I didn’t get anything out of her. I think Matt or Tyler or even the family dog would have a better chance of getting Elena than Damon would. The things this man has done to this teenage girl, it’s insurmountable amount of bad.”
Of course, that hasn’t stopped uber-baddie Klaus from thinking he might have a chance with Caroline (Candice Accola), whom he’s shown feelings for in recent episodes. For that, EW turned to Accola, who assured that the show is “definitely not rushing through any storylines [between Klaus and Caroline right now]. There are promo pictures of Klaus and Caroline dancing at the ball, but it doesn’t go from zero to 60 by any means in a romantic way.”

Kevin Williamson - TVD Interview January 2012
While at the TCA Winter Press Tour, Williamson talked about why it was finally the right time to have that Damon-Elena kiss that many have been anxiously waiting for, how Stefan is now a true tragic hero, knowing the right time to kill off a character, embracing the melodrama in a way that makes it epic, and what he’s excited about for the remainder of the season.
Why did you finally decide that it was the right time to have Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) share a real kiss?
Well, we would have pulled it off sooner, if we could have. We felt like it was time. We just had to wait for the audience to truly respond to the kiss. We have our Elena fans, who have been craving it, but those fans would also reject it, out of hand. There are people who want Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena forever, and they were going to reject the kiss, so it had to be an honest thing for Elena to do. We had to make it real for her, and we had to tiptoe towards it. If we hadn’t, you would have hated Elena. Stefan had to take that turn, so she turned her attention to the one person who’s showing her the love, and she’s tempted by him. Who wouldn’t be? He’s a vampire. He has a power over her, and he’s being really good to her. And, he’s being tormented by it, too. In a weird way, he’s never going to let anything bad happen to his brother.
It’s a great love story because everybody loves everybody. No matter how much they hate each other, everybody loves everybody. It’s a perfect three-way, if they would all just come together. If they could all get along, it would be a hot time. Look, we’re in our third season. I don’t think we have a lot of new audience members, at this point. It is our fans. They’re the ones that are keeping us on the air. They’re our bread and butter. Even beyond that, we just want to be honest to the characters. You can’t just have Elena jump into bed with someone because that’s what the writer wants them to do. You have to earn it, and the character has to do it. It took us this long to earn it. From the second episode of this show, when she walked into the Salvatore mansion and she met Damon for the first time and he kissed her hand, that’s when it began. It just took us two and a half years to say, “I think they can kiss. We’ve earned it.”
How difficult of a line is it to walk with what you’re doing with Stefan and how far you can push it before he’s no longer redeemable?
It’s hard because the sad part about it is that Stefan is such a man of character. He has such a good soul. And now, he’s taken this horrible turn, so no matter what he does, at this point, he’s never going to be able to forgive himself. So, if he can’t forgive himself, how can he ever expect forgiveness from a woman that loves him? He’s never going to be lovable again, in his eyes. He has such a journey. It’s so sad to watch because now he’s in tragic mode. He’s a true tragic hero, in the greatest sense, even more so now then Damon ever was. It is a fine line to walk, and I hope we’re playing it with just enough tragedy that the audience can hold onto him and nurture him, even though he does go down that terrible road. It is a tragic fall. I’m hoping it’s one of those situations where the audience will love him until he can learn to love himself again. That’s what’s happening. We love Damon and, every week, Damon was killing someone new. When he killed Lexi, I hated him after that, and it was my idea. I knew it would turn the audience against him.
When do you know it’s the right time to kill off one of your characters?
Well, Lexi was a one-off. We brought her in for that birthday episode, and her purpose was to be a good friend and make Elena jealous, but ultimately impart on Elena that love is worth it. Epic love is worth epic risk, and that’s what she said to her. At the same time, she served a great purpose for Damon to throw the Council off his tracks. The good storylines start churning, and I just want to be surprising, all the time. I think, “If I do this, how would I earn it?,” and I have to backtrack and figure out the storyline and figure out how to do it. Luckily, it’s all in Julie Plec’s hands right now. How’s that for passing the buck? I’ve been working on my Fox pilot, so I haven’t been able to play as much as I’ve wanted to. Julie and I still talk at 4 o’clock in the morning. I go, “Who are you going to kill?” I’ve let her decide this year ‘cause I killed enough people. She called me up and said, “I think we’re not going to kill anybody,” and I said, “Oh, no. No, you’ve got to kill somebody.”
Is there anything coming up with any of the other characters on The Vampire Diaries that you’re excited about for fans?
I’m really excited about what’s shaking down between Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Stefan and Damon, and that triangle, and how that climaxes at the end of the scene, with the hybrid of it all. And, there’s going to be more exposure to the Original family. And, Alaric (Matthew Davis) is going to be a lot of fun, in the second half of the season. He’s been sidelined with his grief for Jenna (Sara Canning), and we’ve been dealing with Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and his dead ghost ex-girlfriends. Now, Alaric is ready to take a front-and-center role again and really get involved. He’s got a good storyline coming up, so I’m excited about that.
What storyline made you most concerned, but ended up being the most exciting for you to do?
I didn’t want to kill Jenna. I did not want to kill Aunt Jenna. I still miss her. And Anna (Malese Jow), but I got to bring her back for a little while. But, Anna was probably the hardest call to make because I knew how much I loved her, and I was on Twitter every day then, so I knew the fans loved her. Part of me was like, “Kill her! The fans will get so excited by it, even if it’s not in a good way. They’ll get aggro.” I still hated doing it, though. Julie and I will sit in a room and talk the scenes out, and if she’s crying or I’m crying, we know we’re on to something.
